NIGERIA'S CIVIL AVIATION TRADE UNION

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF).
In 1978, it was registered as the National Union of Air Transport Services Employees (NUATSE). In the restructuring of industrial unions that took place in 1996, the union became NUATE (see the THIRD SCHEDULE OF DECREES [NOW ACTS] 4 & 26 OF 1996.
All staff of commercial, private, chartered airlines, parastatals and government owned companies in civil aviation, aviation handling companies, travel agencies and other allied companies, (except airline pilots, engineers and those designated as management projection) fall within the jurisdictional scope of NUATE.

(CEC) is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the union. It is composed of the elected executive members and the secretariat staff of the Assistant General Secretary grade and above. It is the central policy organ of the union, and it sits quarterly. Back up

(NEC)  is composed of the CEC and the Branch Officers (chairmen, secretaries and the treasurers) in the airport states. It sits annually. It is the second highest organ of the union. Back up

(NDC)  is the highest policy organ of the union. It comprises of the members of the NEC and representatives of all the different branches elected on the basis of
population strength. It sits quadrennially. Back up
 (SEC) are elected on the basis of the branches of the union in a state. The local branches of the organizations whose workers subscribe to NUATE in each state are recognized constituents of the state councils. Back up
